Healthy bearded dragon poop can be confusing. Many people may mistakenly think their bearded dragon just needs to "hold it" until he's let out, but this isn't really the case. Holding it or passing it along is actually the best way to ensure proper digestion and metabolism.

What Does Healthy Bearded Dragon Poop Looks Like? When a bearded dragon has his normal meal, he'll produce very little feces. This is because the small intestine isn't usually working at its fastest. As a result, with most of a dragon's bowel movement, there's little to no urine produced and only what's called a thin film of fecal matter passed along with it. The tiny amounts of feces are so fine that they pass easily through the digestive tract and don't seem to strain the digestive system at all.

Why is Healthy Bearded Dragon Poop So Yummy? And why does it look so good? Well, it's all about the color. Most bearded dragons eat mostly yellow food. The yellow content helps them break down food easier, so their feces often consist of lots of white. But if you get a green dragon, which eats mostly red, he'll produce healthy bearded dragon poop that looks much like you see in a chocolate chip cookie.

Why Do I Need To See Healthy Bearded Dragon Poop Before I Buy? Well, one reason to see healthy bearded dragon poop is because of what it represents. Anytime you see a large amount of fecal (yellow) matter, it means your lizard is having a hard time digesting his food. If the lizard is struggling to digest his food, then the odds are good he's sick. Plus, if you ever see blood in your bearded dragon poop, it could mean he has been fighting with another dragon or if he's been bitten, his immune system has been compromised.

But you also want to make sure the green poop you see is normal: It might just be a sign that your bearded dragon has been fighting with another male. That's why you see so many dragon green poop in nature, because a male will often win a fight and leave his mate behind. If this is happening to your bearded dragon, then you'll definitely see some red in his stool.

Healthy bearded dragon poop: will have small grains, lots of white, and lots of blood in it. Anything other than this is unhealthy and indicates he's been infected, stressed, or has been bitten and suffered wounds. Remember, though, that you won't always be able to spot these parasites because they live in their feces.

So even if you can't see them, you can still tell when your bearded dragon has been stressed out by something or has been involved in a fight.
